What is Anime?: Post WWII the Japanese Film
Industry established itself on Samurai, Historical and Science Fiction films.
Noticeably The Seven Samurai, the Samurai trilogy, The
Mysterions, and many others. In 1958 these themes morphed into
the first anime feature film: The Tale of the White Serpent by Studio
Toei. In 1962 the first televised anime was produced by Studio Otogi.
It was about historical black and white cartoons. A year later Osamu
Tezuka, known as the 'God of Manga', founded Mushi Productions and released his
first anime series; Tetsuwan Atom (a.k.a.: Astro Boy).
Gigantor (originally Tetsujin-nijūhachi-gō 鉄人28号,
literally "Iron Man #28") was a manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama published in 1958
which was later made into several anime series, the first in 1963. These
both were rapidly
translated into English and made their way to American television.
Rather than take you through the entire history of this wonderful medium, let me
